Lalla Rookh

Visual identity, stationery, menus, wine labels and signage.

Lalla Rookh is a bar, eating house and wine store tucked underground in the Heart of Perth’s CBD.

I was struck with a curiosity for where the uniquely titled Lalla Rookh’s name came from. It turns out there is a string of stories behind the place – a turn of the 19th century mine site, named after a Kalgoorlie show girl, who followed the gold rush from her homeland of Germany. There’s plenty of hearsay around the whole deal. The branding represents a bit of a dig into the matter, 120 year old Parish plans, typographic references to signage in the area, and lots of gritty, uncoated paper and coarse canvas for menus and stationery.
